A Great Looking Read: Penguin Threads

Crafters and bibliophiles alike will rejoice over the beautifully produced covers of three classic books, released by Penguin last October –with three more currently in the pipeline. The books are printed with a technique known as sculptural embossing, which will give them a look and texture reminiscent of the original needlework.

Genius embroidery, done by  Jillian Tamaki, covers the entire cover (and french flaps!) of Jane Austen’s Emma, Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden, and Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty.

Upcoming covers were created under the steady hand and thoughtful eye of Rachell Sumpter, and are riotously colorful. The second installment of the Penguin Threads series will include: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, and the perennial favorite The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.
