Here at The Troy Book Makers, we pride ourselves on our great customer relations. If you are in the area we welcome you to set up and appointment to drop by our office, but if you are miles away you can meet our staff virtually below.
Susan Novotny (business owner) has been selling books for over 35 years. She is the owner of the Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, The Little Book House, and Market Block Books in Troy, NY. Before owning an independent books store she worked for Simon & Schuster, where she peddled books of all natures. She also founded Staff Picks Press — a small press with a mission to publish books of fiction with national appeal.
Jessika (manager/author liaison/graphic designer) has been described as “only peaceful when she reads.” She graduated Emerson College in 2010, with a BFA in writing and publishing and has since settled down in Troy. After graduating she spent a year and a half trying to explain to affable relatives what she wanted to do when she grew up: “I want to make books… Yes, people still read those.” Then she found The Troy Book Makers—who are kind enough to allow her to fulfill her dreams.
Emma (senior author liaison/graphic designer) earned a BA in Media Management from SUNY New Paltz and an AA in Graphic Design Technology from SUNY Cobleskill (only after deciding that being Peter Pan proved inconvenient). With the desire to simply “make things,” as well as to dive into the world of design, being a book designer and author liaison for The Troy Book Makers is an exciting venture for Emma. In her free time you can find Emma reinventing the wheel, skiing, or making some jewelry on the side.
Nick (author liaison/graphic designer) has a BFA from Alfred University where he spent his time drooling over paper, ink, design–really anything printed. He then wandered the countryside until he came across The Troy Book Makers where he can finally spend his days designing books and playing with paper. When not at The Troy Book Makers, Nick can be found screen printing, building wonky furniture and coming up with any excuse to cook as much food as possible.
Eric Wilska (former business owner), was a founding member of the Troy Book Makers, and owns independent bookstore The Bookloft in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and Found, a used bookstore in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts that specializes in antiquarian and hard to find books, as well as first editions. He has been a bookstore owner for over 35 years.
