Printing at TBM

Whatever the book, we’ll work with you to custom design every step of the bookmaking process — you’ll know exactly what you are paying for. A detailed list of many of these services can be found on our services page.

There is a modest, one time set-up fee for all books, which includes archiving the files for quick and easy reprints. Contact us with basic information about your book (planned size, number of pages, typical page content) for a custom quote.

We use a “perfect binding” on our books which, in publishing lingo, indicates the type of binding used for trade paperbacks you would find in a bookstore. Staple-binding and spiral binding are also available in-house, and other customer bindings may be available from our offsite bindery.

We offer a wide variety of  trim sizes. Standard sizes include 5 x 8, 6 x 9, and 8 x 10, but other trim sizes are available. Our standard interior paper stocks include 50# and 60# white, and 60# cream –all with at least 30% recycled content. Heavier paper weights are available, as are photo gloss/matte stock. Our standard cover stock is a thick semi-gloss paper. All our covers are printed in full color. Additional color within the book’s interior is also an option, but comes at an additional cost. Likewise, you can choose a heavier paper stock or a gloss/matte finish cover at an additional cost.

The minimum order of books with a black-and-white interior is ten. Bulk pricing discounts will be applied to larger orders, for instance 50, 100, 250, or 500 books in a single print run.

COLOR PRINTING and CASEBOUND BOOKS

Please keep in mind that four-color printing is typically quadruple the cost of black-and-white printing. If color images are spread throughout the book, the entire book (including text) may need to be printed in color. The most difficult obstacle with color printing is color matching. All color printers are different, as are all screens (and even what people see!) We cannot exactly match your color printouts, nor can we guarantee that colors will match between print runs, but we strive to come as close as possible.

Casebound (hardcover) books are an option as well, and are typically double the cost of their paperback equivalent — but can be even more with add-ons like foil stamping.
